Trying to Fall Asleep: Let Your Imagination Fly!

PTA Reflections Contest 2015
State Award of Excellence

My mind tosses in a polyphony
of changing images, fragments of thought.
Sleepless the night, I pilot the flight
to a haven my imagination has wrought.

Water tumbles over rocks in short cascades
like white first communion veils of a pew of girls.
Through green the gold slants as sunbeams dance
and shimmer off the leaves like bright pearls.

Over my head is a canopy of leaves
as dark columns of oaks reach for the sky.
Shadows of lace shade my hands and my face,
a gentle breeze against my cheek sighs.

I hear the rush of the stream and a rustle
of leaves gently blowing in the air.
Relaxes my mind, my senses unwind
as I lay down my vigilance and care.

My eyes close, my restless body grows still,
enfolded in my green, golden seat.
The stream gently flows, the wind softly blows
as I lie cocooned  in my mind's retreat.

Away from my throbbing obsessions,
I hide, resting in this beautiful sight.
He who turns the mind's eye, away he can fly
till sweet sleep overtakes him in flight.
